My research lies at the intersection of machine learning and computational biology.

I’m interested in developing deep learning and probabilistic models for next-generation sequencing data that illuminate how different microorganisms influence human health. I am committed to open science and reproducible research, including adhering to best software development practices. As a post-doctoral fellow at the ETH AI Center, I am mentored by Prof. Gunnar Rätsch and Prof. Niko Beerenwinkel.

I completed my PhD in Machine Learning and Computational Biology at ETH Zürich, developing machine learning models and other software for microbiome sequencing data with applications to infant gut development. Research visits to Harvard Medical School, LMU and Helmholtz Munich expanded my expertise in probabilistic modelling and feature representation learning. I hold a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Data Science and an MSc in Environmental Sciences from ETH Zürich. Prior experience includes roles as Senior Data Scientist at IBM developing models on electronic health records; Research Assistant at Swiss Re on quantitative risk modelling; and Software Engineer at ETH contributing to the multi-omics bioinformatics platform QIIME 2.
